The American University in Cairo's mission is to provide an American liberal arts education to students from all socio-economic backgrounds in Egypt and other nations around the world. The AUC promotes the ideals of American education, professional education and life-long learning. The campus facility comprises an area of approximately 1.1 km2, accommodating 5,500 full-time students and 1,500 staff.
Following AUC's relocation to New Cairo, the US$400m construction of the new campus has been plagued by delays. High-Point Rendel provided specialist consultancy services to resolve significant technical problems including many kilometres of district cooling pipework as well as a complex mix of technical and contractual issues. The work involved detailed mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering input and interpretation of large engineering systems requirements in the context of difficult approval processes.
