Major reconstruction works were required at the main airport to bring it up to international standards following the transfer of Kazakhstan's capital city to Astana in 1997. The main civil works included the extension and improvement of runways, taxiways, aircraft parking, perimeter roads and car parks, and construction works for a new passenger terminal, air cargo terminal and control tower.
High-Point Rendel provided expert technical advice to Cabinet Leboulanger, a Paris-based firm of lawyers, representing the interests of the JSC International Airport Astana in Kazakhstan in connection with a dispute in an ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) Arbitration case. The Airport was in dispute with a consortium of international contractors which was claiming additional costs arising from changes in the design and construction of the airport's facilities.
