Thailand's new international airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport (meaning "The Golden Land"), is located 25km east of downtown Bangkok. The airport, which opened in September 2006, can support 76 flights per hour. The airport's Passenger Terminal Complex, comprising seven floors and two basements, is the third largest in the world. The airport also has the world's tallest control tower (132 metres).
ITO Joint Venture, comprising Italian-Thai Development PCL, Takenaka Corporation and Obayashi Corporation, won the US$1.25 billion contract for the construction of the Main Passenger Terminal and Concourse Buildings for the Suvarnabhumi Airport project. High-Point Rendel provided strategic and contractual advice to the ITO Joint Venture Management Team for the management, coordination and administration of the contract as well as identifying key issues in advance of any potential disputes.
